The department of Cell Biology offers two graduate programs: Master of Science and Doctorate of Science. Both programs have an international level of competence awarded by CONACyT. This department has the highest number of graduates in the country. From 1973 up to 2013, we have graduated 368 students, 244 with an MSc degree and 124 with a Ph.D. degree. Remarkably, most of our MSc students continue training in our Ph.D. program.

In our graduate programs, we take care of the integral preparation of our students. We use different experimental systems to unveil the molecular bases governing cell functions, critical for cell and organism survival.

Our research comprises many fields in Cell Biology, including Molecular Biology, Cell Signaling, Cell Differentiation and Motility, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Proteomics, Cancer and Host-Pathogen interactions. Our students are trained in biochemical, genetic and molecular biology methodologies, in addition to up-to-date microscopy techniques including confocal microscopy (CM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Most of the students who earned their MSc degree continue to the Doctorate of Science program in our department. When students finish the Ph.D. program, they might continue their training as postdoctoral students in different countries including U.S.A., France, Canada, Germany and Mexico. At the end, they become part of the staff of researchers in universities or public research institutions, or as professors at different educational levels (undergraduate or graduate).
